Delas Frères, part of the Roederer Group, produces some of the top wines of the Rhone Valley. Headed by Jacques Grange (who was previously instrumental in revitalising the Chapoutier range), the team now makes wines of intense flavour and excellent value.

We recently imported a range of Delas wines which we think are of great value.

The Northern Rhone

Crozes-Hermitage Les Launes 2006
RM89/bottle

Grape: 100% Syrah

Has a chunky feel, with black cherry, currant and tobacco flavors. Smoke and mineral notes chime in on the finish, which shows fresh acidity and another wave of fruit.

Crozes-Hermitage Tour D'Albon 2005
RM105/bottle

Grape: 100% Syrah

A limited-production Crozes of impressive depth and structure, with aromas of blackberries, walnut and smoke, and a ripe, spicy palate.

Condrieu Clos Boucher Blanc 2005
RM205/bottle

Grape: 100% Viognier

The characteristics of the Delas Frères Condrieu Clos Boucher are representative of the Condrieu appellation. The wine is powerful, developing some exotic fruit aromas, as well as those of apricot and peach. Due to an alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in wooden vats, the cru is exceptionally complex and full-bodied.

Grape: 100% Syrah

The color shows brilliant, deep red hues. The nose is powerful and complex, expressing blackberries, smoke, spices, leather and black olives. On the palate, the wine is firm but silky, with a tightly knit tannic structure that is the hallmark of wines that have a great future.

Grape: 100% Syrah

Really pure, with luch fig, raspberry and boysenberry fruit backed by dark toast, fruitcake, black tea and incense notes. Long and lush through the finish, this wine has great integration already, but will improve with more cellaring.

Hermitage Les Bessards Rouge 2001
RM400/bottle

Grape: 100% Syrah

This unique cuvée illustrates the enormous potential of this incomparable vineyard. The wine has a deep red color. The nose is aromatic with scents of berries, currants and violets. Les Bessards is rich in the mouth with bold, yet silky tannins and concentrated black cherry/plum fruit. It’s an exceptional wine with a firm structure that will benefit from long cellaring.

Grape: 100% Syrah

The wine's deep colour is underscored by plummy hues.
A complex nose shows deep, fruity aromas with hints of liquorice and roasted coffee. Endowed with a dense and silky tannic structure, this is a full, fleshy wine that provides an ample and generous palate. Its lasting finish speaks of considerable ageing potential.

The Southern Rhone

Coteaux du Tricastin 2006
RM48/bottle

Grape: Grenache 70%, Syrah 20%, Cinsault 10%.

An intense ruby-coloured wine with violet tinges displaying its youth. The wine is shiny, lucid and offers a good concentration to the eye.
Typified by the aromas of quite mature red & black fruits and a pleasant minerality. On aeration, the wine assumes a greater strength and harmonises its aromas.

On the palate, the attack is round and supple with flavours of mature fruits. The relief comes with the structure, bringing with it a liquorice freshness with aromas of cachous. This brings plenty of vivacity to the ensemble. The tannins are still crunchy and give the wine a good length.

Côtes-du-Rhône Saint Espirit Rouge 2006

Grape: 70% Syrah, 20% Grenache, 5% Mourvedre and
5% Carignan

The “Cuvée Saint-Esprit” shows the strength and a pepper taste typical of the Syrah grape. The color is deep garnet red and has intense red berry aromas. It is an exceptional full-bodied wine with fine tannins.

Côtes-du-Rhône Saint Espirit Blanc 2006

Grape: White Grenache, White Clairette, Bourboulenc

The Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc is pale yellow in color, with green hues. It has a delicate, fruity bouquet and a balanced roundness accompanied by a long, persistent finish.

Haut Pierre Chateauneuf-du-pape Rouge 2005
RM142/bottle

Grape: 90% Grenache, 10% Syrah

Deep garnet red in color. The nose of the ‘Haut Pierre’ has strong spicy aromas that reveal a rich, powerful body that is delicate, yet has a tightly-knit tanninc framework. On the palate, the wine is rich and onctuous, revealing intense licorice-like flavors. Can easily be kept 10 years or more.
